I absolutely delight in this quotation, and feel the significance in myself. So often we can blame our response to life on external factors over which we feel we have no control, but as Lahiri points out we are responsible for the ways in which we construct our worlds and the creation of our lives. That Gogol found his purpose in a building that was constructed out of love, is an important lesson for all.

I actually like this quotation as well. I do believe that although external issues may interfere with our lives, we are the ones who decide how we respond to such situations, developing our character while shaping the life we live.
